Privacy Policy

This privacy policy sets out how MAWS uses and protects any information that you give us when you use our services. The terms ‘MAWS,’ ‘us’ and ‘we’ refer to the owner of the services, Marijuana Anonymous World Services. The term ‘you’ refers to the user or viewer of these services. The term ‘services’ refers to the MAWS websites, mobile apps, and other online properties and content that we control.

MAWS is committed to ensuring that your anonymity and privacy are protected in accordance with The Twelve Traditions of Marijuana Anonymous. If we ask you to provide information by which you can be identified when using our services, you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement. We may update this policy from time to time. When this policy is updated, our services will prominently display the updated policy.

What we collect You are not required, and we will not require, that you provide us with any information whatsoever, except as is necessary to provide you with optional services. We require that you give us your email address to register to use optional services such as the Marijuana Anonymous Connection Forum (Forum). Email addresses are never stored for mobile app users on our servers, except when a user makes a support request, but are retained for those who register for Forum use.

When you send a request from the app to our servers, we collect the version of the app, the version of your device and operating system, your country, and your language. In the case of a location-based request, we collect your geographic location. The collected information is used to customize the server’s response to your device, app version, country, and language. We do not collect any information that identifies who you are or identifies your particular device, such as a hardware or operating system device ID. All online services by necessity receive your IP address with every communication. If you make a Seventh Tradition donation to MAWS through PayPal™, we will receive the name of the payer from PayPal™. We require you to supply us with an email address with support requests so that we may respond to you. Technical support requests from the MAWS mobile app that include the sending of a log file may result in the collection of additional information used to aid in troubleshooting and follow-up, but these do not include personal information entered into the mobile app’s forms such as those in the interactive workbook.

Security We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, we have put in place physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure what you send us. Website and mobile app communications between your device and our servers are secured with SSL, so that the contents of your communications with the services are encrypted between your computing device and our servers. We will not distribute any information we have about our users to anyone unless we are required by law to do so.

How we analyze usage In order to prioritize our efforts to improve our services and software, it is necessary for us to understand what features our users find useful and what they do not. To this end, a user identifier originating from our servers is stored on your computing device, which distinguishes you as a user from all other users. Since this identifier originates from our servers and not from you nor from your device, it is anonymous, and does not, and can not, contain or link to any information as to the identity of any user. This identifier in no way gives us access to your device or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us. This identifier helps us statistically analyze usage of our services, and allows our services to respond to you as an individual. The services can tailor responses to your needs, likes, and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences. By using our services, you consent to our storing this user identifier on your device. In the case of our websites, blocking cookies through your browser may prevent you from taking full advantage of the services.

Once you have used these links to leave our services, you should note that we do not have any control over that other website.
